"Delaney's first birthday is coming up this month. Her birthday is June 29th and I need some ideas on good gifts and party ideas. Help!"

As everyone knows, the cake is the best part of a child's first birthday! Make sure it's something either small enough just for her, or that the whole cake has a specific part that you want for her to have just for her. (We used an Elmo cake pan and he was holding a gift... we wrote her name on it and that was her specific piece.) It's so much fun if that's the main focus of your birthday party.

As for gifts, make sure clothing is given a lot of thought to. Sometimes the best gifts you can get/give to her are clothes. Also, our little girl decided that she really liked anything to do with outdoors since she's getting to that age. Think of where she'll be in the next couple of months, what the weather will be like, if she'll be walking/more mobile... etc, and get gifts that will allow her to progress the most over the next year.

Also, if you're in the Rexburg, ID area and want someone to do a cake for you, let me know. I did my daughter's cake and it turned out so cute!

I have an idea, but I'm giving it to Laney for her birthday. I do agree with giving her clothes. But if you're looking for something fun for her (I think clothes are mostly fun for us moms), I would give her something that makes her feel grown up (like she already thinks she is), like a little kitchen set or something. Or one of those little purses from VTM.

I haven't gotten to the 1 yr birthday just yet so I'm excited to see what people say. I was looking through some of my cousins pictures from one of her little girls birthdays and she made an awesome princess cake... two actually. I can try to get you pictures and instructions on how to make them if you want me to try.

My only first birthday experience is with my youngest brother who is now five. He is my half brother and his father is part Hawaiian so they did a huge luau, which is traditional for that culture. It was a big barbecue with a little hula and they sang special songs that my brother knew. I don't know if you'd want to do a whole shindig like that but it was pretty fun. It was more for the adults than him but he really enjoyed the attention for everyone.

I think when Riann turns one I'm just going to make her a HUGE cupcake (like the size of a Costco muffin... or larger) and take as many pictures/video and I can watching her devour it. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!
