We used huggies exclusivly for both my boys. They kept the boy leaks in and fit well. I would suggest getting smaller packages of multiple kinds in the newborn or size one and trying them out. We had tried pampers with both boys when they were first born (that is what the hospitals around here have) and they leaked like crazy for us. Oh and as far as wipes go, I love the costco brand wipes. They are cheap and effective. Though I've found with infants the huggies wipes are slightly better, but when I had 2 in diapers it was not worth the price.
Paul and I were advised to wait until we had our baby shower to buy diapers. We were told to see what we got and then to try all of those before we spent our own money on getting them. I found that I really liked the pampers swaddlers because they were really soft and we didn't have too many accidents with them however we are now using the pampers more because they are easier to find in bulk and they have the natural shape they just aren't square like all the other diapers seem to be. You don't really need to buy new born diapers because you'll get a ton of free samples and a whole pack in the hospital. Once you use up all of those you'll probably be in 1's for quite a while but I with your showers and stuff I'm sure you'll get enough to hold you over the first couple of months. We didn't have to buy a pack of our own until Riann was about 1 1/2 months. We just bought a big bulk box of diapers and wipes from Costco and saved a ton of money. I'd wait until you know what you like and then start buying in bulk once she's in a set size for longer periods of time. She'll grow a ton right out of the gates and you don't want to be stuck with a bunch of diapers you paid for and can't use.
Out of everything we tried Luv's were our least favorite.
I love Huggies. I have only used them on my second son, but have been loyal ever since (13 months now). I used Luvs before, and they don't even compare. Huggies don't leak, fit great, and stay on. Diapers are worth paying extra for. I also agree with the first post about Huggies wipes, but I can't justify the cost of these either. I use Target brand wipes, and they do the job.
I hated Huggies. I have tried them on both of my daughters and they leaked horribly regardless of what size I bought. I used Pampers exclusively for baby #1 but put both girls in Luvs now. They work very well for our needs. I have used both Costco and Target wipes but don't feel like they are moist enough. I am willing to spend a little extra on the Huggies brand for those.
As my little girl got older my brand preference changed. When she was a newborn the Pampers Swadlers worked best. She had incredible aim that spilled out of every diaper. Still, Pampers worked best. Now she is 11 months old and I find now the best diaper is Huggies Supreme (there is a difference with regular Huggies). They work great now. Sometimes we are on the go and I might not get a chance to change her diaper right away (only if it's wet) and they will last as long as I need them
Agreed...don not use Luvs, they smell so bad. Huggies are great and I cant say enough about Costco wipes I bought 2 boxes at Christmas and still have half a box left. They come 8 to a box.
Luv's do smell horrible. I actually do not mind the wal mart brand for girls. I have heard that for boys they are not a good choice, but they work great with my little girl and also my niece. Target brand diapers are REALLY TERRIBLE!
I like reading through your blog--i found it through a friends blog!
We started with the Pamper's Swaddlers because they didn't leak for a girl, however as our little girl grew up, we've switched back and forth between pampers and huggies depending on the size. I'd say stay away from Wal-mart brand diapers because they're like paper and don't really keep blow-outs in. I also agree with "Casey and Scott" about trying multiple brands of the same size because you'll eventually find one that works best for you. That's how we found out about the Wal-Mart brand diapers.
As for wipes, we prefer the huggies because they are more moist. Walmart brand sucks there too. Not only are they not moist enough, they dry out quickly and aren't able to be used in a pop-up container. You have to open the whole thing every time you want to get a wipee.
I use Target Diapers...they cost $7 less for a box and work the same. I hate huggies and pampers cause they get really big and mushy when they are wet. I find that I just change her (1 yr old) 6 times a day and the diapers work great.
